Twitter visualization of #JSM2019

The Join Statistical Meeting is the largest conference in the statistics world with more than 6000 people coming together to enjoy numbers, data and formulas. I couldn’t be there this year but I thought I should practice my R and plotly skills. So here are some interactive ways to see what happened in the with #JSM2019 on Twitter.

Trends and types of posts

First let us start by looking at the trend. How many Tweets did appear? When? What kind?

It seems the peaked on the 29th with more than 200 tweets and retweets. I’m not sure but it might be related to with a particular person winning a certain award (see most popular Tweet bellow).

Word clouds

We can also do some nice word clouds looking at all the text in the tweets first and then just looking at the hashtags.

No huge surprises here with keywords like: data, statistics, session, Denver, science. Good to see some “great” and “amp” around there as well.

On the tag side I think we have a clear winner with #rstats clearly winning the show. Again, might be related with a certain someone…

Activity and popularity

Next we look at the most active tweeters and the most popular ones.

Here @StatStats is winning the day (I do hope you’re coming to #ESRA21!) followed closely by @jointsgsc. Well done!

On the popularity front we have @JennyBrian. Part of that is a tweet that was massively popular (see bellow).

And the most popular Tweet is…

Bellow is a interactive table with the most popular 30 Tweets. Enjoy. (And congrats to Hadley!)
